GRANDMA'S TALE
My grandma told me this…happened 50 yrs back….
You know, last time,people tend to stay in a long house ( rumah setinggan) like the one in P.Ramlee’s film, seniman bujang lapok…my grandma stays in that kind of house….
My grandma was busy packing her stuff as she is preparing to move house and as per normal, the neighbours there will help carry her stuffs and load it on a lorry. Well as you can guess, lot’s of people coming in and out of her room when she noticed that there is this ‘little boy’, naked, running in and out of her room as well.
She thought it was one of the kampong kids playing..buat sibuk sbiuk jerr…but this ‘kid’ was running in and out carrying her valuable stuff. The thing here is my grandma stash her valuables in places where only her herself knows it…She was quite puzzled when this ‘kid’ ran in again and was looking around for something and went to the place where she kept her jewellery…so she said “hei.. kau anak siapa? Aperr nie lari lari kat sini? Apasal tak pakai baju?...this ‘kid’ was shocked, turn around and faced my grandma ..only then my grandma realized that it was a toyol..she told me that it had big eyes, razor sharp teeth and the skin color is like a human…not green as seen in the movies…Apalagi…my grandma capai penyapu lidi and nak perembat that ‘kid’…but…that kid is fast…before she knows it…it was gone…
Well she lost about $1000.00 and some jewellery…In those days, it was a lot of money…She regret that she didn’t keep the money in the bank…no one to be blamed here..it was her fault.
You know, I didn’t believe at first…but when I just moved in to Yishun, 20 years back, the residence in my block kept losing money…they suspected toyol, reason ..this thing doesn’t take all the money but will leave a little for the homeowner …don’t ask me to fathom the mind of a toyol..i myself dunno why…moreover, some of the victims had a glace of this thing . So the residence, headed by an ustaz there decide to capture this thing…I was too young to follow that time..so my dad told me that they tied a flower crab infront of a house they suspect the toyol will ‘attack’ and when the toyol sees this crab, it will play with it forgetting the task ordered by his master..well its not that easy…they tried a couple of times before they managed to get hold of this thing…Once captured, they question the toyol and the master is revealed…The master stays a few level on top of me..My dad didn’t tell me who, but I can roughly guess who he is.. A few weeks later,he moved house maybe because of shame..
Well, like I said,I didn’t witness all this action…so to me its just a tale…but they say it is true….well, I dunno…you be the judge.
