KAMPONG WAK HASSAN

Dulu time aku masih dalam lingkungan early 20s aku nie suka nahh merayap rayap…kira paling siang aku sampai rumah around 11:30pm..tu dah kira siang ah tu…mana tak..?? dulu bawak motor..slalu lepak dgn members ah..gi riding…

Somehow, one of my friends came up with this idea…Weiii kita gi kampong Wak Hassan nak tak? You all tau lahh…being guys and idiots, kita pun ok lahhh…adventure larr konon…(kampong wak Hassan is off sembawang Road…some of you might know that place…but skarang dah takderr lagi…its flatted…dah jadi tanah lapang..)SO lepas cuci motor under my void deck, the 4 of us got ready and off we went…Before married, I stayed at Yishun….from my place, the journey to that old kampong is about 10 mins ride..Kita tau yang kampong tu dah takderr orang tinggal and we also ader dengar jugak orang cakap tempat tu keras…We left from my place around 11+ if im not mistaken….

Upon reaching, we parked our bikes outside the kampong…we saw an old pak aji walking pass and he beri salam…he said..nak masuk dalam kampong nie kerr..?? hati –hati..and he left…nothing unusual as there is a mosque nearby so we didn’t think he was a ghost or something like that….

So we walk in…walk & walk, nothing happened, no sightings, dun feel anything….after tired of walking..we decide to leave the place…we were there for about an hour or so….this is where everything becomes interesting….As we started to head back….adalah bau wangi….tapi we just ignore….As we were riding back, the journey seems so far away…everyone of us felt that our bikes were heavier than usual…macam membonceng orang kat belakang…I squeezed my throttle the speed shows 90km/h but it feels like 30km/h…the traffic lights seems so far away…Kecot kiter semua…on top of that bau wangi tukar jadi busuk skali….what to do..tawakkal jerr….All in all…it took us about 40 mins to reach at my block…the journey to that kampong is 10 mins only….tapi journey back 40 mins…tak masokk akal…One of my friends…muka pucat and terkencing kat sluar…

He had high fever for 5 days…when we met again…he said…he saw a women sitting behind my other friends bike….dia cakap dierr tak berani tegur..bila dah nampak dia rasa betul betul takut…dia diam ajerrr….
I didn’t see anything…but I did feel scared….

Rumours said that dulu aderr orang yang tinggal kat kampong tu perlihara nie mende…so bila dah pindah…dia tinggalkan kat kampong tu….

I dunno whether its true or not…but what amazes me was the time taken for the return journey when in actual fact, it would only take us less than 10 mins to reached my block…

I used to live there when i was a child (between 1970s - early 80s). Still fresh in my memory how wonderful the life there, so sweet... Mainly the people, the houses, rumah surau, surau, tanglong, 'bai roti', 'kedai kecik', 'atas bukit', 'kedai seng kek','batu 14', 'batu 12', 'pak haji' and many others. I lived there and heard stories about those scary things, but never scared me. I still remember some names and faces of the villagers until now, but never met them again after my family moved to Malaysia. I heard some of them already passed away, and may be many more... May God bless you all. the Boyanese, Javanese, Malays and others were so much united, integrated and were practicing their culture and the traditions in a total harmony.
I am still tracing back the villagers who still alive until today, wherever they are, I love you all. Still remember Dr Tony Tan made a short visit to the kampung, the kids followed him and shaked hands with him and etc.. Oh God. Why life moved so fast? I wish I could rewind the time to those days. That was the place where one of the members of Sweet Charity group lived. I would call the kampung as a heritage, not only to Singaporean but to all the people who love it, especially the ex-villagers. I find out yesterday, there was a theater titled 'Anak Bulan Di kampung Wak Hassan'. I would like to see the recording of it and will find out whether it has the feel of the soul of the kampung or not. If yes, I will watch it thousand times, if not, let us make another one which will replay the soul and spirit of those days.
